Nashville, TN - Tennessee Arts Education Director Jeanette Crosswhite is being honored with the Lorin Hollander Award in recognition of her contributions to arts education and the Tennessee Arts Academy. The Tennessee Arts Academy is a summer professional development program designed for Tennessee arts educators and administrators that also draws a national audience.

Dr. Crosswhite was an associate professor of music before joining the Tennessee Department of Education where she has worked with public school music, visual art, theatre and dance teachers and served as department liaison for the Tennessee Arts Academy.

“The Arts Academy is one of Tennessee’s treasures and Jeanette has dedicated immeasurable energy toward maintaining its success as a respected national event,” Acting Education Commissioner Tim Webb said. “Her leadership and advocacy for arts education has benefitted countless Tennessee teachers and students, and will for years to come.”

The 22nd Tennessee Arts Academy, an initiative of the Tennessee Department of Education, is being held July 13 - 18 at Belmont University in Nashville. Each year, outstanding arts educators, performing artists and stimulating speakers provide new ideas and challenge the 250 teachers and administrators participating.

“It is a joy to make a vocation out of something you love,” Dr. Crosswhite said. “For me, that is the arts and I savor the opportunity to share that with educators and students in Tennessee.”
