Final Meeting of Calendar Year for TWRC Set December 3-4 in Nashville

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission will meet for the final time of the calendar year on Dec. 3-4. The TWRC will hold its December meeting at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Ray Bell Region II Building located in the Ellington Agricultural Center.
 
Area 33 Wildlife Officer Phillip Earhart, recently honored as the Southeastern Officer of the Year by the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies at an annual conference in Atlanta, will be recognized in the presence of the commission at this month’s meeting.
 
Also on hand will be representatives of the Shikar Safari Club, to present an award to another TWRA officer foroutstanding performance in his duties. Shikar Safari makes its annual presentation each fall.
 
In addition, a long-time TWRA volunteer will also be recognized by the agency for his many contributions through the years.
 
Fisheries Division Chief Bill Reeves will present an amendment to the live bait proclamation that was approved by the TWRC to establish native and non-native species that may be bought and sold. In October, the TWRC approved the proclamation to regulate the sale and use of live bait for fishing that included the sale of crayfish and dusky salamanders for bait. Personal use is still allowed.
 
TWRA Chief of Information and Education, Don King will introduce a short documentary depicting events surrounding the recent elk hunt. The first elk hunt in Tennessee in almost 150 years was held in late October and all participants harvested an elk at the event held at the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area. He will also present information regarding the upcoming “Wildlife Night” and hunter education class that are going to be held in conjunction with a Nashville Predators hockey game.
 
During its committee meetings, legislative items such as handgun permits while bow hunting on private land, the “Move over Law” in regard to waterways, abandoned and/or salvaged vessels and off-highway vehicles will be discussed. Also, results of an audit report will be given.
 
Committee meeting will begin at 1 p.m. on Dec. 3 and the regular meeting will start at 9 a.m. on Dec. 4. The meetings are open and the public is invited to attend.
