NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Education today announced the 27th annual Tennessee Education Technology Conference, designed specifically for school and district technology leaders.

“We are committed to increasing learning capabilities in anyway possible and that means integrating technology into the classroom,” Education Commissioner Timothy Webb said. “We’ve already begun the process through program like the Electronic Learning Center with Apple iTunes U launched last year.”

During this year’s conference, the Department of Education will be receiving a $30,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to provide training to teachers statewide on thousands of free, standards-based educational resources available through www.Thinkfinity.org. Commissioner Webb will be on site Thursday during the conference for the grant announcement.

Each year the conference offers training sessions, labs, workshops, interest sessions and peer networking. The goal is to encourage participants to integrate technology into the classroom lesson plans. The event will include a trade show with exhibits showcasing the newest technologies, related software and services of interest to the education technology market.
