Kingsport Show Is Location for Final TWRA Boating Seminar

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Boating Division will be hosting a short seminar in conjunction with the Shadrack Boat Show in Kingsport. The meeting will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28 beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The seminar is part of the TWRA Boating Division’s attempt to facilitate more active partnerships between the TWRA boating groups, boating enthusiasts, stakeholders and other interested parties to advance mutual goals.

Betsy Woods, TWRA Boating Education Coordinator, is conducting the seminar. The visit to Kingsport will be the fourth of the seminars TWRA has hosted across the state this winter and it is hopeful that this year’s initial meetings will grow into regular meetings on an annual basis.

The first portion of the seminar will be a power point presentation about the TWRA Boating Division and what its mission is and how TWRA maintains programs that meet its mission. The second part will be an electronic survey that is also a power point-like presentation.

Each participant will be given a handheld electronic device similar in appearance to a TV remote control. There is a keyboard on this device so that the person can answer the multiple choice questions shown on the slides. The questions are like any survey, first establishing demographics, boat ownership, boating experience, then questions about issues in relation to recreational boating.

The results are immediate and anonymous and the data from each session will be analyzed to pinpoint any weaknesses in the programs or reveal new programs that may need to be addressed in the future. There will be an opportunity for comments as well and of course, a small token of appreciation for participating will be offered as well to the attendees.

The previous seminars have been held in Nashville, Chattanooga and Memphis.
