NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has recognized Smith County native and Dickson County resident Tom Beasley for his generosity over the past decade to TWRA outreach programs in Humphreys and Smith counties. Beasley was honored for his contributions during the recently-held meeting of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission at Reelfoot Lake State Park near Tiptonville.

Due to Beasley’s involvement, well over 1,000 individuals have participated in agency outreach efforts on his properties in both counties. These events include Young Sportsman hunts, Beyond BOW Muzzleloader Workshops and the Wounded Warrior Weekend.

This was the 10th season for the young sportsman deer hunts and more than 50 youths participated. Youngsters between ages 10-16, who had never harvested a deer, were eligible and could enter a drawing on the agency’s website. More than 300 youth from across the state registered. At the October hunt, 20 deer were harvested by the 25 young hunters who participated.

This was the ninth year that the Beyond BOW Muzzleloader workshop was held on the Beasley farm in Humphreys County. Due to its success and high interest, first time participants are now given two weeks priority to register and well over 200 women have taken part in this event.

Beasley’s military past helped establish the foundation for the agency to get involved with the Wounded Warrior Weekends for injured 101st Airborne Division soldiers. This past December was the third year for the event and 16 soldiers harvested 22 deer.

In addition to making his property available for numerous agency events, Beasley has also provided a storage building for equipment and funded the building of a bunk house for agency personnel and volunteers. His properties also incorporate a variety of management practices to enhance the wildlife.
