TDOT Crews Clear Roadways After Weekend Snowfall

Sunday, March 01, 2009 | 06:49am
NASHVILLE - Tennessee Department of Transportation crews have completed snow and ice removal activities on roadways across Tennessee where as much as 15 inches of snow fell over the weekend. The storm, which affected much of the south and east coast, resulted in major impacts to the Tennessee interstate and state highway system.

Sections of southern west Tennessee received the largest accumulation and crews worked long hours to clear ice and snow from interstates and state routes. Many maintenance crews traveled outside their districts to assist in the hardest hit areas. While all interstate routes are open in the state, motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through affected areas.

Motorists should remember to take it slow when there's ice and snow on roadways.  That means slower speed, slower braking, slower steering and slower acceleration.  Also, drivers are reminded to leave plenty of room between cars to avoid rear-end collisions which are most common during snow events.  Finally, TDOT asks drivers to please give snow plows plenty of room to work.  These trucks are usually spreading salt which can be corrosive to car paint.
