March TWRC Meeting Format Adjusted

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission has a change in its format for the March meeting. Due to a light agenda, this month’s meeting will be held in one day and will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18 at the Region II Ray Bell Office Building.
Among the items on this month’s agenda, will be consideration of an amendment that would open private ponds to the commercial harvesting of common snapping turtles. Commercial fishermen are currently not allowed to harvest turtles from private ponds even when the pond owners request that the fishermen remove the turtles.
Information will be shared regarding a proposed weekly television show partnership between the TWRA, the Renaissance Center in Dickson and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation. The program, tentatively titled Wild Side Weekly, will air four times a week on Nashville's News Channel 5+. The format of the show will allow current information about hunting and fishing to be shared with its viewing audience. The TWRA, through its various divisions will provide guests and expertise for the program.
The TWRA will update the commission on the Wildlife Management Institute’s review of the agency. The report is approaching a final version and the agency will be provided an opportunity to comment on the report.
New commission member appointments have not been made or confirmed. TWRC Chairman Johnny Fred Coleman requested that all committee assignments remain unchanged until after the appointments have been confirmed.
The public is invited to attend the meetings in the conference room of the Ray Bell Building. The TWRC serves as the governing body of the TWRA.
