NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen today appointed Vanessa Agee Jackson of Tullahoma, Tenn., to the Tennessee Circuit Court for the 14th Judicial District. Jackson will fill a vacancy created by the death of Judge John W. Rollins in January. The 14th Judicial District serves Coffee County.

“Vanessa Jackson has developed extensive trial experience in her career, and I am confident she will carry out her duties on the Circuit Court in the same thoughtful and professional manner in which she has practiced law in Tennessee for 30 years,” said Bredesen. “I am pleased to appoint Vanessa to this seat, and I appreciate her willingness to serve in this capacity. I would also like to honor Judge John Rollins and acknowledge his many years of service to the state in this position. He will be greatly missed.”

Prior to her appointment, Jackson was in private practice at the Tullahoma law firm now known as Hull, Ray, Rieder, Ewell, Lane & Ridner, P.A., since December 1993. After earning a doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1978, Jackson served as the in-house counsel for First Federal Savings & Loan Association of Tullahoma until 1980 and was also in private practice with the Tullahoma law firm of Henry & McCord until 1993. She has also served as director on the Board of Directors for First Vision Bank of Tennessee since its formation in 2005.

“I am honored to be appointed by Governor Bredesen to serve the citizens of Tennessee on the Circuit Court,” said Jackson. “I believe my sense of compassion, insight and appreciation of the art of advocacy developed over 30 years of the practice of law will serve well the citizens of the 14th Judicial District.”

Jackson, 54, is a member of the Coffee County Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association and a former member of the Coffee County Election Commission. In 1990, she was named Outstanding Professional Woman by the Tullahoma Business and Professional Women’s Club and is an active member of First United Methodist Church of Tullahoma. She is married to Donald Jackson and has one daughter.
