NASHVILLE ---On March 18, 2009, Department of Safety Commissioner Dave Mitchell placed Trooper Mark Williams on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).

This action comes after the Department of Safety initiated an internal investigation stemming from the results of a random CDL drug test. OPR is conducting an on-going investigation into possible misuse of prescription drugs. The allegations include possible violations of departmental policies. Effective April 8, 2009, Trooper Williams was temporarily assigned to the Jackson Driver License Service Center. In this assignment, he is not allowed to carry his duty weapon, must wear civilian business attire, and is not allowed to drive a State vehicle.

Trooper Williams, 41, is assigned to Crockett County in the Memphis District and was commissioned with THP in January 2004.

Administrative memorandums are attached. Pending the on-going investigation, this is all the Department of Safety can release at this time.
