MOUNTAIN CITY - The Department of Correction is investigating the apparent homicide of an inmate at the Northeast Correctional Complex in Mountain City.  The preliminary investigation shows that inmate Allen Gibson, 57, had been involved in a physical altercation with inmate Charles Godsby, 37, on April 2.

Gibson suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead the next day at a local hospital.  It is believed both men had been drinking manufactured alcohol when the fight occurred. TDOC Internal Affairs agents plan to present information from their investigation to the District Attorney's office to support criminal charges against Godsby for second-degree murder.

Allen Gibson was serving a life sentence for rape out of Campbell County.  Inmate Charles Godsby is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder out of Marion County.  Charges could some against a second inmate for tampering with evidence.
