Meeting Set to Examine TN's Nominations to National Register of Historic Places -- May 27

NASHVILLE - The State Review Board will meet on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, to examine Tennessee's ten newest proposed nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.

The meeting will be held at the Arthur J. Dyer Observatory at 1000 Oman Drive in Brentwood. It will begin at 10 a.m. The Board will vote on ten nominations from across the state. Nominations that meet the criteria will be sent for final approval to the National Register of Historic Places in the U. S. Department of the Interior. 

The nominations are:

  • Carter County: Shelving Rock Encampment
  • Greene County: Maden Hall Farm 
  • Hardin County: Savannah Historic District (boundary increase) 
  • Jackson County: Jackson County High School 
  • Knox County: Chilhowee Park Historic District 
  • Knox County: Stratford 
  • McMinn County: Trinity United Methodist Church 
  • Putnam County: White Plains 
  • Shelby County: Idlewild Presbyterian Church 
  • Sumner County: Trousdale-Baskerville House  
Other business at the meeting will include the review and reassessment of the Drane-Foust House property in Montgomery County for potential removal from the National Register. Additionally, Juan R. Self, founding principal of Self Tucker Architects, Inc. in Memphis, will be introduced as the newest member of the State Review Board. 
 
The State Review Board is composed of 13 people with backgrounds in American history, architecture, archaeology or related fields. It also includes members representing the public. The National Register program was authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.
