Two-Boating-Related Fatalities Reported over Labor Day Weekend

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reports that there were two boating-related fatalities over the Labor Day holiday weekend. The fatal accidents both came on Saturday in separate incidents on Watts Barr Lake and Normandy Lake.

There were nine total boat accidents reported. TWRA boating officers made six boating under the influence (BUI) arrests over the weekend. The holiday period began Friday evening (Sept. 4) and continued through Monday (Sept. 7).
 
Through Labor Day weekend, the statewide totals for 2009 now stand at 149 BUI arrests, 130 accidents and 15 fatalities.
 
Over the Labor Day holiday weekend in 2008, there were 13 accidents with no fatalities and 10 BUI arrests.
