TWRC to Hold First Meeting of 2010 at Reelfoot Lake State Park

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission will hold its first meeting of 2010 on Thursday-Friday, Jan. 21-22, at Reelfoot Lake State Park near Tiptonville. It will be the third consecutive year that the TWRC’s January meeting will be held at the Reelfoot Lake State Park.

 

The TWRC meeting begins at 1 p.m. on Jan. 21 with the committee meetings and starts at 9 a.m. on Jan. 22 with the regular meeting.

 

Among the items on January’s agenda, the commission will receive an update on the 2010 Elk Hunt. TWRA officials are expected to make final recommendations concerning the 2010 elk hunt at February’s TWRC meeting.

 

A report will be presented on the new Watchable Wildlife Web site which was launched Jan. 12. TWRA, in collaboration with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation, has launched the Watchable Wildlife Web site, to promote watchable wildlife across the state, and the Bluebird License Plate, which funds Watchable Wildlife projects. The new Web site has a variety of new functionalities to assist individuals interested in watching wildlife, such as bird identification assistance, and information on where to view wildlife.

 

TWRA Executive Director, Ed Carter, will present a proposed restructure of the agency for the TWRC consideration.

 

At an earlier TWRC meeting, there were several proposals for new license types including a one-day non-resident fishing, and a one-day resident trout license. TWRA officials will review the proposals and also present information on implementing a new fishing guide license.

 

The TWRC serves as the governing body for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The public is invited to attend.
