West TN Health Departments Receive Total of $899,550 in Federal WIC Funds
NASHVILLE − Tennessee Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, will join other state and local officials on Thursday, October 14, to present a total of $899,550 in federal funding from the United States Department of Agriculture for the Women, Infants and Children program to the Carroll and Gibson County Health Departments.
The Carroll County Health Department will receive $399,690 in federal WIC funding. The Gibson County Health Department will receive a total of $499,860. The funding will be used for renovations to the health department clinics in Huntingdon and Trenton, respectively, to improve services to WIC clients. During the past year, these facilities have served nearly 4,000 patients.
The renovations will include construction of a 1,800 square foot addition to the Carroll County Health Department clinic. In Gibson County, the WIC funding will support construction of a 2,300 square foot addition to the health department facility in Trenton.
