TDOT to Formally Open New Bridge in Bridgeport Community of Cocke County

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely will join state and local leaders to officially open the Major J.T. Huff Bridge on State Route 9 US 25/70 on Friday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m.
 
Some of Major Huff’s descendants will be in attendance to help to re-dedicate the new bridge in their loved one’s memory.
 
The new bridge will replace a four span through truss bridge that was originally built in 1933. The original bridge included two 10 foot lanes and was approximately 779 feet long. The new structure is 935 feet long and includes two 12 foot lanes with 10 foot shoulders, which will double the width of the previous bridge.
