NASHVILLE − Tennessee Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, will join other state and local officials on Tuesday, October 26th, to present $399,999 in federal funding from the United States Department of Agriculture Women, Infants and Children program to the Cocke County Health Department.

The funding will be used for renovations to the Cocke County Health Department in Newport to improve services to WIC clients. The Cocke County Health Department has provided services to approximately 1,900 WIC participants over the past year, which resulted in almost $900,000 in vouchers redeemed in the county.

The renovations will include construction of a 2,400 square foot addition to the health department facility. In addition to improving delivery of WIC services, the addition will allow better access to a variety of health department services by WIC clients.
