NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen today named Junaid Odubeko as Legal Counsel to the Governor. Odubeko replaces Steve Elkins, who announced plans to leave the administration earlier this month.

“Junaid has proven himself to be a skilled and knowledgeable advisor on a number of legal issues,” said Bredesen. “I value his counsel, and am very pleased he has agreed to serve the state by stepping into this role.”

Odubeko has served as Deputy Legal Counsel to the Governor since 2007. Before joining the administration, Odubeko was an associate at Burch, Porter & Johnson, PLLC, in Memphis where his practice focused on the areas of civil litigation and municipal law.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve in this new capacity,” said Odubeko. “I very much appreciate the confidence the Governor has shown in me, and I look forward to helping him and his team build on the successes achieved during his time in office.”

A Memphis native, Odubeko is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and holds a doctor of jurisprudence from Vanderbilt University. He was a 2010 graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law Program and currently serves on the boards for Hands on Nashville and Tennis Memphis.
