Sevier County Health Department Receives Nearly $400,000 in Federal WIC Funds
SEVIERVILLE − Tennessee Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, will join other state and local officials on Wednesday, October 27th, to present $399,690 in federal funding from the United States Department of Agriculture for the Women, Infants and Children program to the Sevier County Health Department.
The funding will be used to renovate space slated for the new Sevier County Health Department clinic in Sevierville to improve services to WIC clients. The Sevier County Health Department has provided services to more than 4,000 WIC participants over the past year, which resulted in $1.7 million in vouchers redeemed in the county.
The renovations will include more nutrition education and treatment rooms than are currently available at the Sevier County Health Department, in addition to a group education room. The funding will help to improve delivery of WIC services and will allow better access to a variety of other health department services by WIC clients.
