Commissioner Tim Webb Announces Plans to Leave Department of Education

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen announced that Tim Webb, Commissioner of the Department of Education, is leaving the administration today after serving as Commissioner of the department since July, 2008. Webb joined the Tennessee Department of Education in 2003 after serving as Superintendent of Lewis County Schools.

 

Governor Bredesen has not named a replacement for Dr. Webb.

As I move on to the next phase of my career, I am pleased with what we’ve accomplished during my time in state government. Under the Governor’s leadership we’ve improved our state’s education system in meaningful ways that will transform K-12 education and benefit students, teachers, parents and employers for decades to come. I’m proud to have been a part of this historic time in education in Tennessee.”

Commissioner Webb also lead the team that helped Tennessee win the national Race to the Top competition. I appreciate his dedication to educating our children and wish him well in the future.”
