Chattanooga, Tenn. –TDOT bridge inspectors have temporarily closed the bridge on U.S. Hwy. 41 over the Tennessee River at Nickajack in Marion County. During a routine inspection today inspectors discovered an area of corroded steel that needs further evaluation and closed the bridge to traffic as a precautionary measure until temporary repairs can be made. The bridge will remain closed until further notice. Detours are posted.

The bridge originally opened to traffic in 1929 and was rehabilitated in 1966. TDOT will open bids on a project to totally replace the bridge in December 2010.
