Bridge over Tennessee River at Nickajack Open After Repairs Made

Chattanooga, Tenn. –TDOT bridge repair crews have completed repairs to the bridge on U.S. Hwy. 41 over the Tennessee River at Nickajack in Marion County, and it will reopen to traffic by 5:00 p.m. CDT. Bridge inspectors discovered an area of corroded steel yesterday during a routine inspection that necessitated closure of the bridge for repair and further evaluation. Crews made the necessary repairs today and completed the inspection, which yielded no additional problem areas.

The bridge originally opened to traffic in 1929 and was rehabilitated in 1966. TDOT will open bids on a project to totally replace the bridge in December 2010.
