Bredesen Names Mike Morrow Commissioner of Finance and Administration

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen today named Mike Morrow Commissioner of the Department of Finance and Administration. Morrow replaces former commissioner Dave Goetz, who announced his resignation last week.

“Mike has served the state of Tennessee for more than 30 years, and I appreciate his willingness to continue his service in this new capacity,” said Bredesen. “Mike’s state career includes more than 20 years within the department of Finance and Administration, so he is extraordinarily qualified to lead this department and to continue oversight of the state’s budget and overall operation of state government.”

“I appreciate the opportunity to continue serving Governor Bredesen and the state of Tennessee as Commissioner,” said Morrow. “With the continued commitment and support of the employees in Finance and Administration, we will work hard to ensure the financial stability and operational accountability of government we’ve achieved during the past several years as we transition to the next administration.”

Mike Morrow is in his 34th year of public service with the state of Tennessee.  He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and began his career as an internal auditor.  After serving in administrative accounting positions and as fiscal director for the Department of Employment Security, he moved to Finance & Administration 22 years ago. 

Over the past two decades, Morrow has served as fiscal director, Assistant Commissioner of the Division of Administration and on June 1, 2003 he was promoted to the Deputy Commissioner.

Most recently, he assumed responsibility for the Tennessee Recovery Management office that provides oversight of the federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  In December 2009, he was named Administrator of the Year by the Tennessee Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA).

Morrow is a graduate of the Tennessee Government Executive Institute.
