Upper Cumberland Health Departments Receive Total of $212,870 in Federal WIC Funds
NASHVILLE − Upper Cumberland Regional Health Director Debbie Johnson will join other state and local officials on Tuesday, November 9, to present a total of $212,870 in federal funding from the United States Department of Agriculture for the Women, Infants and Children Special Supplemental Nutrition Program to the DeKalb, Van Buren and White County Health Departments.
DeKalb County will receive $65,000 in federal WIC funding, Van Buren County will receive $25,000 and White County will receive $122,870. Funding awards are based on the size of the WIC client population in each county, and will be used for renovations to the health department clinics in Smithville, Spencer and Sparta to improve services to WIC clients. During the past year, these facilities combined have served a total of nearly 2,700 WIC clients, resulting in more than $1 million in WIC vouchers redeemed in these three counties.
The renovations will include improvements to WIC clinic rooms at the DeKalb and Van Buren County health department facilities, and the addition of two clinic rooms and a storage area at the White County health department.
