[img:1 align=float_left]KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Motorists need to be aware of a lane closure caused by a landslide. Tennessee Department of Transportation crews closed the northbound lane on State Route 116 also known as New River Highway at mile marker 9 in Anderson County after approximately 150 feet of the lane was washed away overnight. The slide area is less than a mile south of the county bridge that straddles Anderson and Campbell County. Travelers need to use extreme caution as flaggers direct traffic onto one lane during the assessment and repairs.

[img:2 align=float_right]Geotechnical engineers have evaluated the damage and believe the rising levels of a nearby creek eroded the embankment under the roadway, causing the slope to fail. TDOT crews will begin work immediately to repair the damage, but no timeline has been set for completion.

Motorists are advised to continue to monitor the TDOT website at www.tn.gov/tdot for updates. TDOT is also on Twitter. For up to the minute traffic information in Knoxville and the Tri-Cities follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/knoxville511. For statewide travel information follow www.twitter.com/TN511.
