Rutherford County to Receive $700,000 in Federal WIC Funding

MURFREESBORO − Tennessee Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, will join other state and local officials on Wednesday, December 16, to present $699,937 in federal funding from the United States Department of Agriculture for the Women, Infants and Children Special Supplemental Nutrition Program to the Rutherford County Health Department.

The funding will be used for renovations at the North Rutherford County Health Department clinic in Smyrna to improve services to WIC clients. The Rutherford County WIC clinic has served nearly 10,000 patients during the past year, resulting in more than $3.8 million in vouchers redeemed in the county. The federal funding will be used to add clinic rooms, counseling rooms, a classroom and computer station to the Smyrna clinic, as well as to expand the clerical area to improve delivery of WIC services.
