The Hermitage Exit Ramp off Interstate 40 to Close this Weekend for Sinkhole Repairs

Thursday, December 02, 2010 | 02:50am
NASHVILLE – – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close part of Exit #221-A off Interstate 40 in the Hermitage area this weekend to repair a sinkhole on the off-ramp to Old Hickory Boulevard. The ramp will close beginning Friday, December 3 at 8:00 p.m. and will reopen no later than 5:00 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2010. The ramp to Central Pike will remain open.

During the closure, workers will first remove the existing pavement. Crews will then excavate an area approximately 25 feet wide and 12-15 feet deep to access and repair the sinkhole. The area will then be filled with new rock material and re-paved.

TDOT will use overhead and portable message boards to alert motorists of the ramp closure.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and seek alternate routes. Law enforcement officers will be on site in the work zone to provide traffic control as the work is being completed. TDOT also asks drivers to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones across the state.
