TDOT to Release Details on U.S. 64 Rockslide Clean-up

Thursday, March 18, 2010 | 06:28am
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely will visit the U.S. 64 rockslide sites in Polk County on Friday, March 19. Nicely will update the progress made on clearing the slides and improving the roadway and the schedule for reopening U.S. 64.

Prior to the event, TDOT will take media representatives on a brief tour of the three active U.S. 64 work sites. Due to the dangerous nature of the work being performed, and to ensure the safety of everyone on site, media representatives will not be allowed to drive their vehicles to the Ocoee rockslide site. TDOT will provide transportation. All reporters, videographers, and photographers need to arrive at the intersection with State Route 30 at 9:20 a.m. EDT.  Media representatives must wear appropriate attire for an active work zone including: closed-toe shoes, jeans or slacks, a safety vest and a hard hat. TDOT will have safety vests and hard hats on hand for media use.

Friday’s event will begin at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time at the site of the Ocoee rockslide on U.S. 64 in Polk County across from TVA Dam 2 and will last approximately 30 minutes.
