Bridge Project Creates Changes on Rosa Parks Boulevard

NASHVILLE – Beginning next week, motorists traveling on Rosa Parks Boulevard near MetroCenter should be alert to changes to the westbound travel lanes. The changes are necessary as a project to widen the Rosa Parks Boulevard Bridge over Interstate 65 moves into its second phase.

Starting Monday, March 22, the westbound left turn lane from Rosa Parks Boulevard to Dominican Drive will be eliminated for a period of several weeks. The existing left through lane will become a combined left turn and through lane. To minimize congestion, the traffic signal at the Rosa Parks Boulevard/Dominican Drive intersection will be reprogrammed to allow uninterrupted left turns.

There will be temporary lane closures on Rosa Parks Boulevard this weekend as the lane changes are implemented:

Saturday March 20 and Sunday March 21, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (EACH DAY), Rosa Parks Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction from I-65 to Dominican Drive to perform median work, install new striping, and underground utilities.

The $7.5 million construction project will widen the Rosa Parks Boulevard Bridge over I-65 from six lanes to eight lanes. The additional lanes will provide double left turn lanes to Interstate 65 North and South. The I-65 on-ramps will also be widened to accommodate the extra turn lane. In addition, changes will be made to both I-65 off-ramps to create safer conditions for pedestrians crossing the bridge. The project is estimated to be complete in May 2011.
