Bridge Work Requires Nighttime Lane Closures on Interstate 40

Wednesday, March 24, 2010 | 11:15am
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation crews will close lanes on Interstate 40 East and West near White Bridge Road during nighttime hours this week to perform work on newly installed bridge beams. The closures are as follows:
  • Wednesday March 24 and Thursday March 25, 8:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. (EACH NIGHT)
During the closure periods, I-40 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. The lane closures are necessary in order to protect cars from welding sparks coming from the steel beams that cross over I-40. Despite lighter traffic volumes during the evening and overnight hours, the closures will likely create delays in the east and westbound lanes of Interstate 40. The travel lanes will reopen before the morning rush hour.

The work is part of the Interstate 40/White Bridge Road Interchange Modification Project, which will help improve traffic flow for motorists traveling eastbound I-40 to Briley Parkway and from Briley Parkway to westbound I-40. The $32 million project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is scheduled to be complete in August 2011.
