Major Renovation at Campground Complete

GALLATIN, Tenn. – Following the completion of a major renovation project at Bledsoe Creek State Park’s campground, the park will celebrate its re-opening on Saturday, April 10 with a Family Fun Day.

From 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Family Fun Day will include free food, activities and entertainment. Music will be provided by the Portland City Limits, Garcia and Scott, Jesse McReynolds & the Virginia Boys and Flatbroke – a band whose roster includes several of Tennessee State Parks’ own park rangers and staff. Tours of the new campground will also be conducted.

With the newly renovated campground open for business, campers are welcome after the much- needed facelift began in May 2009. Designed in the late 1960s by the Corps of Engineers, the original campground at Bledsoe Creek State Park primarily catered to tents and pop-up trailers. The updated design includes 57 improved, level campsites up to 65 feet in length and 25 feet wide, along with 50-amp and 30-amp electrical service, paved sites, new borders and fire rings, grills, lantern holders, picnic tables and campsites approved by the American Disabilities Act. The renovations also include new water lines throughout the park and all park roads have been paved.

During the renovation, visitors have been able to park vehicles at the boat launch on Ziegler Fort Road and access the park’s six miles of hiking trails. Traffic in the park was restricted during construction as a safety measure.

“We are very excited about these updated facilities and appreciate our park visitors’ patience during the renovation effort – we encourage everyone to join us for Family Fun Day on April 10,” said Wayne Bomar, park manager. “The wait was well worth it as the campground is top of the line and so much more accessible for all kinds of camping. I am looking forward to making my rounds at the campground to greet old friends who’ve always enjoyed the Bledsoe Creek camping experience, and to see some new faces who’ve been anxious to try it out.”

Bomar added the Friends of Bledsoe Creek State Park will co-host the Family Fun Day event with Tennessee State Parks. “We appreciate the long-standing support of the Bledsoe Friends group and their support continues to be an invaluable resource for the park and for its visitors.”

Please find attached an open invitation to the April 10 Family Fun Day, which will be held at Bledsoe Creek’s park headquarters on 400 Zieglers Fort Road in Gallatin.

Located off of Highway 25 in Sumner County, this 164-acre park is situated on the Bledsoe Creek embayment of the U.S. Corps of Engineers Old Hickory Reservoir near the old 1780s settlement of Cairo.
