CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Work to stabilize the slope and clear the rockslide that occurred on U.S.-64 at mm 17.6 on November 10, 2009 is complete, and the roadway is expected to reopen to traffic  at around noon on Wednesday, April 14.  Crews put the finishing touches on the roadway this week by performing the last of the rock bolting and scaling on the slope, after which they dismantled and moved the 275-ton crane from the roadway. After the crane was removed crews completed the paving, installed guardrail and signs and placed pavement markings on the roadway.

In addition to clearing and stabilizing the rockslide at mm 17.6, crews have also completed a project to stabilize the site of a second slide that occurred at mm 10.9 near Madden's Branch on January 19, 2010. Preemptive work has also been done to improve several areas along the U.S.-64 corridor, most notably to the area at mm 14.5 known as the 15-m.p.h. curve.
