THP Prepares to Announce Trooper & Dispatcher of the Year
 
NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be honoring one Trooper and one Dispatcher from each of the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s 9 Districts, including Administration. The “Trooper of the Year” and “Dispatcher of the Year” ceremony will be held Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Department of Safety’s Training Center.

These honored Troopers of the Year have gone above and beyond in serving the citizens of the State of Tennessee. There are currently 770 members of the THP who enforce motor vehicle, driver license, and criminal laws. The THP has branch offices located in each of Tennessee’s 95 counties including eight District Headquarters.
 
There are currently 84 THP Dispatchers and Supervisors that serve the Department of Safety statewide. Last year, these heroic individuals handled more than 347,000 calls for service. Because of their exemplary and necessary service, the second week of April is designated as National Public Safety Telecommunicators week and dedicated to the men and women who serve as telecommunicators, dispatchers, communication operators, radio control personnel and all others who utilize telephones, radios, computers and technical skills to provide support to law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services and other governmental field personnel.
 
The Tennessee Department of Safety’s (www.TN.Gov/Safety) mission is to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public. The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
