TDOC Issues Call for Nurses

Thursday, April 29, 2010 | 08:00am

HENNING - The Tennessee Department of Correction is experiencing a critical shortage of nurses at the West Tennessee State Penitentiary in Lauderdale County.  There are currently 15 vacant RN and LPN positions at the facility.

This weekend, the TDOC will hold a job fair for interested nurse applicants to learn more about the benefits of working in a correctional facility and for the State of Tennessee.  The job fair will include a tour of the facility and information on compensation, educational benefits and flexible schedules.

The West Tennessee State Penitentiary houses adult male inmates of all security levels.  "Often people do not consider careers in corrections because they are simply unaware of the opportunities," said Commissioner Gayle Ray.  "I have found that many people discover that it is a rewarding career in a safe environment and wish they had known about it earlier.  I encourage anyone to at least explore the possibilities."
