TDOS Promotes Curtis Mansfield to Jackson District Captain

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety today announced the promotion of Curtis F. Mansfield Jr. as the new Captain commanding the Jackson District.   Captain Mansfield replaces Robert Melton, who retired February 25, 2010, after a 36-year career with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

“It is an honor to be promoted to Captain in an area where I have lived and worked all my life,” said Captain Curtis Mansfield. “Nobody can possibly fill the shoes of retired Captain Robert Melton who was so highly respected by Troopers and the communities we serve in the Jackson District. I appreciate the opportunity to work in a leadership capacity toward furthering the mission of the Department of Safety.”

“Captain Mansfield has provided years of solid service to the Highway Patrol in the 11-county Jackson District,” stated Colonel Mike Walker. “His administrative skills have already been demonstrated in his capacity as an Administrative Lieutenant and acting Captain. I’m confident his valuable experience will serve the district and the THP in superb fashion.”

A native of Medina, Tennessee, Captain Mansfield, 45, has served as acting Captain of the Jackson District since March 1, 2010, and previously served as acting Captain of the Jackson District in 2003-04. For more than seven years, Mansfield has served as the Administrative Lieutenant in the Jackson District, beginning in July 2002 until his appointment to acting Captain in March of this year.

Commissioned as a Trooper in November 1988, Mansfield first worked as a Road Trooper in Decatur and Madison counties within the Jackson District. In May 1993, he was promoted to Sergeant in Madison County and then to Lieutenant in November 1999, serving as Safety Education Lieutenant until July 2002.

Captain Mansfield is an August 1987 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.

Captain Mansfield, his wife, Kim and two daughters reside in Jackson.
