NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Agriculture, state House Agriculture Committee Chairman Stratton Bone and other agriculture industry groups are partnering with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee for Ag Day on the Hill. Visitors, exhibitors and legislative employees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for donation on April 13.

“Tennessee’s agriculture industry contributes more than $60 billion annually to the state’s economy,” said TDA Commissioner Ken Givens. “This year, to celebrate that industry, we want people to thank their farmers by sharing the farm harvest with our neighbors less fortunate.”

Ag Day on the Hill celebrates one of the state’s top industries and seeks to increase awareness of the importance of agriculture to Tennessee. Ag Day on the Hill will feature a variety of events and exhibits, including special presentations to the House Agriculture Committee, livestock displays, a milking contest and many representatives from the agriculture and forest industries. Second Harvest has participated in Ag Day on the Hill for the past two years. The winner of the annual milking contest has a donation made to Second Harvest in their name.
