Tennessee is Buckling Down on Rural Drivers and Passengers
In an Effort to Boost Seat Belt Use and Save Lives

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office is sustaining a special high-visibility enforcement campaign running May 17-23, 2010. 52 law enforcement agencies in 19 Tennessee counties are participating in this Click it or Ticket enforcement blitz.
These communities were chosen because of a high number of motor vehicle fatalities blamed on a lack of seatbelt usage. The low seat belt usage in these Tennessee counties put motorists at a high risk for serious injuries and fatalities. During 2008, of all the fatalities in Tennessee, 62 percent occurred in rural areas. 72 percent of pickup truck occupants killed in a traffic crash were not wearing their seat belts.
