Section of I-440 in Nashville to Close This Weekend

Thursday, May 13, 2010 | 08:46am
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation crews will close a short section of Interstate 440 in Nashville this weekend as the final phase of a major concrete rehabilitation project continues. I-440 Westbound from the Interstate 65 junction to the Interstate 40 junction on the west side of Nashville will be closed beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010. I-440 will reopen no later than 5:00 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2010.

The closure is necessary for the placement of highly reflective striping on the roadway. The work is weather dependent, and could be rescheduled in the event of rain.

TDOT will use its many overhead message boards across the city to direct motorists around the closure. Several portable message boards will also be placed at strategic points on Nashville interstates to alert drivers of detour routes. Most of the traffic will be diverted to Interstate 40 through downtown Nashville. In addition, information on the closures will be broadcast on the TDOT SmartWay Highway Advisory Radio station (1680 AM) and on 511.

Attached to this release is a map detailing this weekend’s westbound closure. For more information on TDOT construction project activity visit the TDOT SmartWay web site at www.tn.gov/tdot/tdotsmartway/. Travelers can also dial 511 from any land-line or cellular phone for travel information or can follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/TN511 for statewide travel information or www.twitter.com/Nashville511 for traffic information in the Nashville area. Motorists are reminded to use all motorist information tools responsibly. Drivers should refrain from texting, tweeting or using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle. TDOT advises drivers to “Know before you go!” by checking traffic conditions before leaving for your destination.
