Cumberland Mountain State Park to Host Byrd Creek Trail Run May 22

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. – Runners are warming up for the Byrd Creek Trail Run at Cumberland Mountain State Park on Saturday, May 22. This first annual event will begin at 8 a.m. with a 1.8-mile “Fun” Run for those who like shorter distances, followed by the 15k Trail Run at 9:30 a.m. which meanders through the park’s forest (please note that all times are CDT). 
 
Hosted by the Friends of Cumberland Mountain State Park, in partnership with the Tennessee Park Ranger Association, the Byrd Creek Trail Run will benefit the Ranger Scholarship Fund and Cumberland Mountain State Park’s new Junior Ranger Day Camp for kids, which launches this summer. Both runs will start and finish at Shelter 1 in the park’s upper playground. An awards presentation will be held immediately following the 15K run. Food and drinks will also be available.
 
The pre-registration deadline is May 20, 2010. A race T-shirt is guaranteed to all pre-registered runners. Registration will also be available on Saturday, May 22, from 7 to 7:45 a.m. (CST). Entry fees are as follows: 
  • 1.8-Mile Fun Run: Pre-registration – $10 / Day of Race – $15
  • 15k Trail Run: Pre-registration – $25 / Day of Race – $30

Cumberland Mountain State Park is situated on the Cumberland Plateau – a segment of the great upland, which extends from western New York to central Alabama. It is said to be the largest timbered plateau in America.
