Seat Belt Observation to Educate Teens About Importance of Safety Belts

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office is partnering with State Farm Insurance, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions Across Tennessee and David Crockett High School to launch an important new safety campaign, Click It AND Ticket, to educate teens of the importance of wearing seat belts. GHSO, State Farm, CADCAT and David Crockett High School volunteers will be monitoring safety belt use among teens and parents throughout the week. Teens observed wearing a safety belt will be given a ticket to turn in at the school to win a prize. Ten students will receive $10 gift cards and one lucky student will receive a grand prize $100 gift card.

Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teens and many of those deaths are preventable by simply wearing a safety belt. In 2008, 125 families buried a teenager following a crash on a Tennessee roadway. The time between prom and graduation is a very critical time and the emphasis of wearing a seat belt is essential.
