Section of US 31 in Williamson County to Reopen Friday

Thursday, May 20, 2010 | 11:12am
NASHVILLE – All travel lanes on a portion of US 31 in Williamson County near State Route 840 will be open to traffic by 6:00 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010. The northbound lanes have been closed for several days as repairs to a large sinkhole were completed. The sinkhole, which was approximately 26 feet deep and 25 feet wide, developed following the recent flooding in Middle Tennessee.

TDOT initiated an emergency contract to complete the repairs to the roadway. Contract crews had to dig down some 50 feet to reach the bottom of the sinkhole and remove the remaining unstable material. The area was then filled in with more than 900 tons of graded solid rock and repaved.

A number of Tennessee roadways were damaged by the recent flooding. For a complete list of impacted areas, please visit the TDOT SmartWay web site at www.tn.gov/tdot/tdotsmartway/. Travelers can also dial 511 from any land-line or cellular phone for travel information or can follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/TN511 for statewide travel information or www.twitter.com/Nashville511 for traffic information in the Nashville area. Motorists are reminded to use all motorist information tools responsibly. Drivers should refrain from texting, tweeting or using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle. TDOT advises drivers to “Know before you go!” by checking traffic conditions before leaving for your destination.
