Anderson County Bridge Repairs Will Lead to Lane Closure

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Motorists using the bridge across the Clinch River on SR-170, also known as Edgemoor Road in Anderson County, will need to be alert for lane restrictions that will be in place from June 2, 2010 until July 2.

Beginning June 2, the two lane traffic across the bridge will be reduced to one lane while construction crews remove the asphalt overlay, perform any necessary bridge deck repairs, and repave the bridge.  In addition to the traffic signal at Melton Lake Road, a temporary traffic signal will be placed on the east end of the bridge in order to control the alternating direction of traffic across the bridge during this 30-day construction period. Other miscellaneous repairs to the bridge will also be performed during this closure period.

In October 2009, the Tennessee Department of Transportation awarded a $1.6 million contract to Mid-State Construction Company, Inc. to rehabilitate the existing bridge over the Clinch River and CSX Railroad along SR-170, adjacent to TVA’s Bull Run Steam Plant.

Since January 2010, crews have been painting the bridge using barges below the structure to avoid any interference with traffic.  The repair work to the bridge deck, which required TDOT to reduce the bridge to one lane, is estimated to be completed by July 2, 2010. Crews will then repaint the bridge, which should be completed by fall of 2010.

Motorists traveling through this area should be alert for potential long delays, especially during morning and evening rush hours.
