New Fayette County Driver Service Center to Open

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety will open a new Driver Service Center in Fayette County on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, located at 160 Beau Tisdale Drive in Oakland, Tennessee. The current location at 7027 Highway 64 West in Oakland will be closed on Tuesday, May 25.
 
Reopening at its new location at 7:00 a.m. CST on Wednesday, May 26, the Oakland Driver Service Center will operate during its normal business hours of Tuesday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On the second Wednesday of each month, the facility opens one hour later due to a monthly staff meeting.
 
“The new Oakland location on Tisdale Drive provides our customers with a larger, more comfortable waiting area and expanded parking,” stated Deputy Safety Commissioner Greta Dajani. “In addition, an enclosed testing area and improved service counter will afford the public more efficient, timely service.”
 
Customers may also utilize other nearby full-service Driver Service Centers in Hardeman, Shelby and Tipton County. The Hardeman County Driver Service Center is located at 200 Harris Street in Whiteville. The facility is open Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CST.

From Highway 64 West:
Take Hwy 64 going east toward Whiteville. Continue through Whiteville to Harris Street. Take a left onto Harris Street. The Driver Service Center is located approximately 200 feet from the turn off and is on the right. The building is tan with a red roof and lake in front.
 
From I-40:
Take Exit 52 and follow the signs to State Route 179, Whiteville. Follow SR 179, 16.8 miles to Whiteville. At Whiteville city limits, follow signs for SR 179 to Hwy 64. Turn right onto Hwy 64 West. Follow Hwy 64 West to Harris Street. The Driver Service Center is located approximately 200 feet from the turn off and is on the right. The building is tan with a red roof and lake in front.
 
Shelby County Driver Centers located in Memphis are at 6340 Summer Ave and 3040 Walnut Grove Road. Both offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST.

From I-40:
Take Exit 12 (Sycamore View). Take Sycamore View to Summer Avenue (Hwy 70) and turn right. The Driver Service Center is 1 1/2 miles down on the left. The Driver Service Center is located in East Memphis on Summer Avenue (Hwy 70) between Raleigh LaGrange Road and Elmore Road in the same parking lot with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

From US -64 in Oakland:
Go west on US-64 until you reach I-269N. Take slight right merging onto I-269N. Drive approximately 3.6 miles and exit onto I-40 West toward Memphis. Go approximately 13.9 miles and road becomes Sam Cooper Blvd. Continue onto Sam Cooper Blvd. for approximately 4.7 miles. Turn left at Tillman Street. Travel approximately 8/10 of a mile until Walnut Grove Road. The Driver Service Center is across from the Memphis Central Library on Walnut Grove Road and behind the Memphis Police Department Central precinct located at 426 Tillman St.
 
The Tipton County Driver Service Center is located at 220 Highway 51 N., Suite 1, Covington, Tenn. The facility is open Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CST.

From Interstate 40:
Take I-40 toward Memphis. At Exit 2, take off ramp (towards Millington). Take Highway 51 traveling north. Follow Hwy 51 approximately 35 miles. Upon reaching Covington city limit sign, go through four traffic lights. The Driver Service Center will be on the right about 2/10 of a mile after the fourth traffic light.
