Tuesday, May 25, 2010 | 01:35pm

NASHVILLE – Tennessee First Lady Andrea Conte today hosted a panel discussion focused on the challenges facing families left behind when a loved one is deployed to war. Entitled “The Other Side of War,” the event was held at Conservation Hall at the Tennessee Residence.

“In addition to the men and women who are called into service, the families of our soldiers are troopers, too” said Conte. “Whether they’re a partner who stays at home to run a household, a parent whose child has answered the call to service, or a child who endures while mom or dad is away, they all face daily challenges and must persevere to maintain a sense of normalcy through a difficult time.”

NewsChannel5 anchor Vicki Yates moderated the discussion. Participating panelists included:

  • SGT Kevin Downs, Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran
  • Cassandra Flanigan, Gold Star Spouse CW3 William T. Flanigan
  • Keeley Stewart, daughter of LTC Kevin Stewart
