Tuesday, May 25, 2010 | 04:24am
NASHVILLE – A Mobile Disaster Recovery Center opened in Jackson County Monday, May 24, for a two-and-half day stay to provide assistance to people affected by the severe storms and flooding between April 30 and May 18, 2010.

The mobile center’s hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25 and 26, at the Jackson County Rescue Squad Headquarters, 703 School Street, Gainesboro, TN 38562.

Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers allow the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to travel to designated counties to answer questions about applications and to review information FEMA needs to process applications. Recovery specialists can supply contacts for other programs that may be able to provide assistance.

Disaster officials suggest that before visiting the centers, people first register online anytime at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY) 800-462-7585, for those with speech and hearing disabilities, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Help in all languages is available.

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) representatives will be at the Disaster Recovery Centers to answer any questions about the SBA low-interest disaster loan program for homeowners, renters, businesses and private non-profit organizations of all sizes. These loans are to repair or replace real estate and/or personal property damaged by the storms and flooding.
