FEMA: Hazard Mitigation Help is Closer Than You Think

Hazard Mitigation Specialists at Locations in Hendersonville, Jackson, Millington, Nashville and Smyrna Beginning May 31

NASHVILLE – People affected by the recent storms and flooding in Tennessee who are rebuilding can receive valuable information for projects around the house.  Beginning Monday, May 31, hazard mitigation specialists with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be at locations in Hendersonville, Jackson, Millington, Nashville and Smyrna, Tenn.

The specialists can answer questions about protecting homes from future disaster damage, as well as offer other home improvement tips and techniques. Topics will include flood- and wind-resistant building methods, wind straps, flood insurance and other measures to make homes stronger and safer. Publications on these topics also will be available. There is no cost to talk with the advisors.

FEMA mitigation specialists will be available beginning Monday, May 31, until further notice at the following locations:

Specialists will be in the stores daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The specialists are scheduled to be at more locations throughout Tennessee. Those locations and dates will be announced as details are finalized.

FEMA’s temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
