Last Spring’s Turkey Harvest Passed; Season Continues Through May 16

NASHVILLE --- The 2010 spring turkey harvest has already surpassed the total number for the 2009 season, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports. The 2010 statewide spring turkey season continues through May 16.
 
Heading into the first of the two final weekends of the statewide season, 33,764 birds have been harvested. The 2009 spring season total was 32,081.
 
Maury County has the top county harvest thus far with 919. Montgomery has the second highest county total with 862 followed by Greene (794), Henry (791), Dickson (775), Sumner (767), Giles (719), Hawkins (690), Rutherford (680), Marshall (648), Hardeman (611), Robertson (609), and Cheatham (603).
 
Tennessee sportsmen are on trek to pass the highest mark since 2007 when the total harvest was 34,256. The record harvest was the previous spring season in 2006 when 35,877 birds were harvested.
 
All Tennessee counties are open to wild turkey hunting including Wildlife Management Areas and refuges unless specifically listed.
