TWRA Updates Status of Wildlife Management Areas Damaged by Floods

NASHVILLE --- Due to the May floods, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has been delayed from its annual planting of crops for wildlife, including waterfowl areas in many areas of Middle and West Tennessee.

Many of these areas suffered significant damage to levees, road and pumping systems. TWRA officials are reporting the current status of several of the sites.

The planting of corn at Big Sandy Wildlife Management Area is now underway and should be completed by the end of the week (June 25). The fields at Camden WMA are continuing to dry and planting is scheduled to start the week of June 28, provided there is no rain to cause further delay.

The pump at Barkely WMA is now operational and plans are to have the corn planted at that site by the week ending July 2. At Gin Creek, planting is completed for 60 acres of corn.

The TWRA will continue to update the status of the WMAs throughout the summer.
