Tennessee Board of Nursing Suspends License of Sandra K. Stone

Friday, June 25, 2010 | 11:15am

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Board of Nursing has suspended the license of Sandra K. Stone and revoked her multi-state practice privilege. The suspension of the nursing license and revocation of her multi-state practice privilege was effective June 18, 2010. As a result of the board’s actions, Stone was immediately prohibited from working as a nurse.

Stone’s nursing license was suspended for the following:

  • unauthorized use or removal of narcotics/drugs from a work place location;
  • using narcotic drug while on duty;
  • being under the influence of drugs, which impairs judgment, while on duty;
  • impersonating another licensed practitioner;
  • exercising undue influence on a patient;
  • practicing professional nursing in a manner inconsistent with the law;
  • engaging in acts of dishonesty which relates to the practice of nursing;
  • being guilty of a crime;
  • being unfit or incompetent by reason of negligence, habits or other causes;
  • being addicted to alcohol or drugs to the degree of interfering with nursing duties; and
  • exhibiting unprofessional conduct.

Stone was provided the opportunity to participate in an informal conference before the Board of Nursing, but has declined participation. During the conference, the board would have determined whether the public health, safety or welfare imperatively required emergency action and whether the nurse’s license should remain suspended pending the outcome of a contested case proceeding in the matter.

Stone first was licensed as registered nurse in Tennessee in 1987. She has faced discipline by the board previously, in 1990 stemming from drug-related violations.

Detailed information about disciplinary actions is available on the TDOH website at http://health.state.tn.us/Licensure/default.aspx. Enter the name of the person of interest. Once the license information appears, click on "disciplinary action” or “adverse licensure action” and then "view board order.”
