CDC’s Judith Monroe, MD, TN Health Commissioner Media Availability July 15

NASHVILLE – Judith Monroe, MD, FAAFP, deputy director of the Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will meet with Tennessee Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, and other TDOH leadership on Thursday, July 15. Monroe will tour county health department clinics before traveling to Memphis for the 2010 conference of the National Association of County and City Health Officials.

Monroe and Cooper will discuss the “Six Winnable Battles,” public health issues designated as focus areas by CDC Director Thomas Frieden, MD, MPH, and what Tennessee is doing to improve in these areas. Cooper will also discuss new resources for youth and teachers now available through the Get Fit Tennessee initiative.

Monroe is a former Indiana state health director and immediate past president of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials. She served four years practicing in rural Tennessee with the National Health Service Corps.
