Riverbend Officer Assaulted

NASHVILLE - A correctional corporal at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville is recovering this morning after being attacked by an inmate.  Corporal Rafael Morales was stabbed multiple times by inmate Kevin Goff at approximately 7:21 p.m. Tuesday night.  Cpt. Morales was in stable condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center with stab wounds to his head, arms and abdomen.

Inmate Kevin Goff, 39, was sentenced to 20-years in prison on June 18, 2001 for a 2nd Degree Murder conviction out of Maury County.  Goff has been placed in segregation.

The TDOC plans to pursue an attempted murder charge against him. Internal Affairs agents are investigating the incident.  Cpt. Morales is a 13-year veteran of the TDOC.
